The DC power unit can also be manufactured using transistor-based high-frequency rectification technology, as an active voltage rectifier (AVR).
This technological solution has the following differences compared with thyristor technology:
- minimal impact on the supply network due to the low (3–5%) total harmonic distortion (THD) of the input current and the high power factor (0.99);
- the ability to obtain a high DC output voltage (for example, 750 V) without using a converter transformer;
- the ability to regenerate DC energy back into the AC supply network, enabling controlled battery discharge directly into the AC supply network without the use of additional energy-dissipating discharge devices;
- the ability to correct the power factor in the supply network;
- design only with forced-convection air cooling.
